Colter Thomas
Harvard University
Colter Thomas, a photographer and student, was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. At 18, he made the decision to drop out of college and pursue a career in photojournalism. His professional journey landed him primarily in Tijuana, where he collaborated with veteran journalists to document the migrant caravans from Central America and the plight of unaccompanied minors stranded in Mexico while awaiting asylum.
In 2022, he restarted his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona. Shortly after, he began working with Dugan Meyer on the “Infrastructures of Control” project. Guided by an early map from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and set against the desert landscapes of his homeland, they began to track down and photograph the surveillance towers along the border.
Thomas recently relocated from his home in Tucson to the east coast, where he is completing his undergraduate degree at Harvard University. Thomas is also preparing for law school, aiming to further his impact through a multifaceted approach to justice and advocacy.
