Katherine Tomaszewski

Katherine Tomaszewski is a human rights lawyer with a background in international humanitarian and human rights law, national security law, and U.S. criminal law and litigation. As senior legal advisor at Charity & Security Network (C&SN), she provides legal analysis and expertise to support the organization’s legal, policy, and advocacy goals.
Tomaszewski previously worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Washington, D.C.; the World Organization Against Torture in Geneva, Switzerland; and the Committee Against Torture at the United Nations. Tomaszewski's past work spans multiple fields of international law, including applying international humanitarian law to assist in the protection of civilians in areas of armed conflict, assisting victims and their families in bringing international claims of torture to the United Nations Committee Against Torture, and partnering with local civil society organizations in various countries to advocate for international human rights standards. She also contributed to litigation efforts in Central and South America and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights combatting violence against women during armed conflict.
Prior to working at C&SN, Tomaszewski worked as a deputy public defender for the State of Colorado, where she worked to defend and protect the rights, liberties, and dignity of those accused of crimes but unable to afford to retain counsel.
Tomaszewski received her J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law and a B.A. in International Studies, with minors in English and Spanish, from Ohio State University.
