Mayze Teitler
Mayze Teitler was a legal fellow at the Knight First Amendment Institute, where they focus on the surveillance of incarcerated people, spyware, and government transparency.
Teitler is a member of the team challenging San Mateo County, California’s policy of digitizing and destroying physical mail sent to people in its jails in A.B.O. Comix v. San Mateo County. They also work on behalf of current and former journalists at the news organization El Faro who were victims of spyware attacks using NSO Group’s Pegasus technology. Additionally, they support several ongoing FOIA government transparency projects, including a suit seeking the disclosure of secret Office of Legal Counsel opinions.
They received their J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in May 2022, where they served as a vice president of the Board of Student Advisers, an executive editor of the Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, and a student teaching fellow at the Cyberlaw Clinic at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. During law school, Teitler interned at the Knight Institute and the American Civil Liberties Union of the District of Columbia. They hold an M.Sc. in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Oxford, as well as a dual-degree B.A. in classical languages and in justice and peace studies from Georgetown University.
